I bet you’re following a lot of indie authors, a lot of author channels, and so on, and you know that they always hire professional editors, designers, etc.
And that’s beautiful! Making sure your book is the best quality is great.
However… a well-off youtuber can’t really recommend that to a broke mom of five who can barely make ends meet because that mom’s first book is not going to make any money, so what is she supposed to do? Take out a loan? Amidst a pandemic? I don’t think so…
She might as well forget about publishing then - the agents reject her, the self-publishing gurus reject her, she might as well let go of that dream.

Listen, I also have a ZERO BUDGET because I am saving up for rent and life things, so I don’t have any money for self-publishing either.
And I still do it. I self-publish for free.
