What if you can't stick to a schedule or a deadline? This is for the rebels.

What if you can't stick to a schedule or a deadline? This is for the rebels.

Let's be real here...

Most of us can't stick to a lot of things, being rebels and all.

I remember the agony of University and how I would start all of my papers at the last minute, even though I had had months to prepare and start writing.

Instead, I would start the previous night or the weekend, and have to be ready first thing on Monday morning or the next day. And it was excruciating. I mean, it's one thing to prepare for months and start writing the last minute. I'm talking that both preparing and writing would happen at the last minute. I would also start cramming information the last minute before a test.

I'll never forget this one time when I went out and partied the night before a big test, got insanely drunk, threw up, passed out, woke up in my room without a key for the front door OR my ID card, which I would need for the test...

Looking for a coach? Make sure they understand your creative rebel needs.

Looking for a coach? Make sure they understand your creative rebel needs.

you've hit a bump in the road.

You feel stuck, uninspired, and frustrated with everything that used to be fun.

Usually, at this point I recommend to people to get some perspective by introducing another person to the equation. It could be a loved one (though they are subjective) or an accountability buddy (though they can only give you their opinion, not guide you), or a coach (who do not have the answers, but know how to gently guide you to your truth, or at least the good ones do).

If you think you're ready to hire a coach, I just want you to make sure that you're hiring someone who understands your needs as a creative rebel.

Otherwise you'll have wasted your money and ended up even more frustrated.

Why creative rebels need to stick together.

Why creative rebels need to stick together.

Apart from the obvious 'birds of a feather' thing...

You know how you grew up with people calling you "weird" and making faces behind your back? How you were always the odd (wo)man out? How trying to fit in somehow made things worse and when you finally did, you still felt out of place?

Congratulations, you're a rebel.

And I get your frustration, I really do. I lived that life, so I get how hard it is to be different. Except you're not different, you are unique - and by the way everyone is - and the difference you perceive is in the way you think, compared to other people.

What is a creative rebel?

What is a creative rebel?

I get this question a lot.

The other thing I get a lot is people saying they're NOT rebels.

Thing is, when I look at the people who say they're not rebels, they're the biggest rebels out there, and they're just insecure because "rebel" sounds like some sort of activist or revolutionary who changes the world and breaks rules on a daily basis.

Nope. A creative rebel is nothing like that.

You say you're different? Prove it.

You say you're different? Prove it.

There's a big difference between talking and walking the talk.

In the first instance you can say anything you want. Make yourself look good and professional. Even pronounce to the world that you're "different."

What you can't do, however, is fake walking your talk. It's just not possible.

If you're saying you're different, next we want to see from you HOW you are different (and if we can't find proof you're different, we'll know you're just talking). Is your brand original, does your copy scream you, or is your business model all wacky?

Something you do - or all that you do - needs to be different if you say you are.

A crazy side project is exactly what your creative business needs.

A crazy side project is exactly what your creative business needs.

A lot of creatives come to me asking how they can make money.

How they can make their business sustainable.

And I look at their brands and see... products, packages, selling.

I ask myself, What would make me buy from this person? The answer? Nothing.

If you want people to buy from you, you need them to discover you.

For example, I find people from social media, but I don't really care about the screaming messages where they announce it's the LAST DAY to buy...

Live and be happy without money?! This is surely the talk of a crazy woman...

Actually, if there was ever a time to invent your own rules and do anything you want with your life, it's TODAY. You can live a life that's free from convention.

Do you want such a life? There are so many examples of this actually working.

Below are some genius projects that involve rebels offering their services in exchange for things much cooler than money. From poets to photographers to startup advisors, anyone can live an alternative life and have an alternative business nowadays, including YOU.

10 Books Every Creative Rebel Should Have in Their Library

I've been having a bit of a problem with impulse buying...

You see, it took me a while to teach myself not to go into shops when I'm saving up for something more important than bags and hats. However, when it comes to BOOKS, Amazon is just one click away. What's worse, buying is one click away!

As a result, I have developed quite the library. Boring books, famous books, underrated books, rebellious books, and so on. Today we'll focus on books for rebels, by rebels. Whether you're already a rebel and you want to read something worthy of your attention or you're looking to find authors that deserve their hype, look no more.

Dear ENFPs, Rebels, and Multipassionates, stop comparing, start celebrating.

Dear ENFPs, Rebels, and Multipassionates, stop comparing, start celebrating.

You know how sometimes you look at your neighbors and they have a better garden, a bigger family, and a better car? Maybe they have more money or bigger accomplishments. Maybe they're more beautiful, more creative, more... fill in the blank.

As long as you have this comparison mindset, you'll never be happy!

I'm trying to remember where my ENFP-hate/fixation began. Probably when I was in University and they were telling us to focus, pay attention, and cultivate "successful" learning habits, which we would then use "in the real world" as we look for jobs.

Gag me. If I could go back in time, I'd gag them, too.

If you want to stand out online, you gotta think outside your industry.

If you want to stand out online, you gotta think outside your industry.

You know the saying "think outside the box?"

This is the same, only I'm telling you to think outside your industry.

If I think back to every industry I've ever been in - creative writing, photography, startups, marketing - I've always found annoying things. You too? This doesn't mean we're haters or that someone's going to jump out and expose us. It just means that we have a unique opportunity to transcend the things we don't like in our respective industries.
