Client Story: How Rosemary overcame her fear of "what if" and started her first podcast.

Hey there rebel!

Today's post is an interview with a client of mine who just started her own rebellious podcast People Behind the Business, and I am so proud of her for jumping into it like she did. Most of us would plan a project for ages until we have figured it out and made it perfect, but Rosemary just knew that she would figure it out as she went, and that's what I love about her. The other thing I love is that she is always genuine, no matter what. You'll see in the interview.

But hey, let's hear the story from Rosemary herself...

A creative way to overcome your limitations and reach your full potential.

A creative way to overcome your limitations and reach your full potential.

Hey there rebel!

You know that friend who always comes to you with the same problem? You want to help them, but you can't, so you hope they'll go see a therapist or listen to their mother... and then they come back with the same problem.

Your friends probably feel like this about you, too. ;)

We all have friends like that, and we can't help them because they have to help themselves first... even though they don't know how.

Do any of us know how to overcome fear? I don't think so.

Anyway, I recently watched the TED talk I believe could change all that friends-in-fear loop going around. And before I tell you how, I want you to watch it.

Want to make 2018 amazing? Stop setting resolutions, set a foundation.

Want to make 2018 amazing? Stop setting resolutions, set a foundation.

Hey rebel, happy almost 2018!

What people usually do at this point is go forward by setting resolutions they will never keep because they don't have the foundation for it.

I could tell you all about my plans to teach more than I coach in 2018 and how I'm aiming to move to the UK and open myself up to the world again, but these are plans and goals, ones I can only accomplish if I have a strong foundation backing up my future actions. Wishing for things will not make them be.

I propose an alternative - what if instead of setting goals we can never follow through with, we set the foundation for making them happen?

Now the question becomes:

What could be a strong enough foundation for future success?

Are you a creative with no style and no confidence in your work? Read this.

Are you a creative with no style and no confidence in your work? Read this.

I hear this everywhere...

I'm a writer/artist with no identifiable style. How do I find it?
My style of writing/etc. is boring/underwhelming/not very good. How can I write/create more like you/her/him?

Etc.

We're going to take on these (really) common limiting beliefs among the creative community and figure out how to get past them once and for all. Because on the other side of these lies your personal creative freedom.

In this case, the grass is greener on the other side.

When you get tired of your own BS, that's when the magic happens.

When you get tired of your own BS, that's when the magic happens.

There have been many times in my life I had tired of my BS and done something about it. There was the time when I tired of depression and went to a therapist to get diagnosed so I could finally lead a better, happier life. There was the time when I tired of flailing about trying to find "jobs" because that's what I was "supposed to do," even though I hated it, so I started my business then.

And now I have reached the limit of another BS point...

Looking for a coach? Make sure they understand your creative rebel needs.

Looking for a coach? Make sure they understand your creative rebel needs.

you've hit a bump in the road.

You feel stuck, uninspired, and frustrated with everything that used to be fun.

Usually, at this point I recommend to people to get some perspective by introducing another person to the equation. It could be a loved one (though they are subjective) or an accountability buddy (though they can only give you their opinion, not guide you), or a coach (who do not have the answers, but know how to gently guide you to your truth, or at least the good ones do).

If you think you're ready to hire a coach, I just want you to make sure that you're hiring someone who understands your needs as a creative rebel.

Otherwise you'll have wasted your money and ended up even more frustrated.

I did a Tarot reading for you and rebels are saying it's creepily accurate.

I did a Tarot reading for you and rebels are saying it's creepily accurate.

Dude...

I have never in my life done something so radical.

Which reminds me. Apparently saying you do Tarot readings is a bit tricky, and you're supposed to say that you're doing it for entertainment purposes.

*So this Tarot reading was done for entertainment purposes.*

I have done Tarot readings for friends, family, and strangers at hen parties (so much so that every girl at the hen party lined up to wait her turn), and they have all experienced the same thing - insight. I'll be honest and tell you why that happens - because the cards reflect what you think back to you.

How Giving Myself Permission to Suck for 30 Days Transformed My Creative Process

How Giving Myself Permission to Suck for 30 Days Transformed My Creative Process

This entire journey started very simple...

I wanted to beat my perfectionism and procrastination tendencies.

Well, let me tell ya... when you allow yourself to SUCK, you really do flip perfectionism off because you're putting things out there that aren't "ready" and you become braver and braver in your creation process. So much so, you're shipping things in days!

If I hadn't done the 30 Days of Sucking challenge, I would not have shipped The Creative Business Companion so fast, or ever. And what a shame that would've been.

Why Hustling Is Actually Bad for You and "The Four States of Being"

Why Hustling Is Actually Bad for You and "The Four States of Being"

Last week I experienced a catharsis. This particular one was EPIC because it caused a major shift in my mindset. It was the resolution to a constant battle with burnout — one that I’ve been losing for years. It felt as if a strong wave of calm washed over me, leaving me behind feeling like a Hindu cow. FINALLY. I WAS FREE.

Free of constant hustling, of feeling like I have to do everything, of the expectations imposed on me by me, of the constant need to prove myself, of going in circles and feeling like a hamster stuck in a cage, the wheel my only friend.

Do we have to try so hard? Does it have to be so difficult?
